Temple Grandin's Success Story

The story of Temple Grandin's life with autism is now being made into an HBO movie.  Her parents were told she was autistic as a child when she did not learn to speak until she was 4 years old.  However, Temple Grandin went on to become a professor at Colorado State University after receiving her Ph.D. in animal science.

Grandin currently works with cattle and livestock and focuses mostly on the humane treatment of animals.  Her recently released book, “Animals Make Us Human”, discusses the emotional requirements and needs for domestic, farm, and zoo animals.  Grandin attributes her ability to understand animals due to that both Grandin and the animals are visual thinkers and communicate in a sensory way.  Grandin has dramatically helped reform how livestock in North America is treated and has had a huge impact on animal treatment in general.
