These families dealing with autism may not always be aware of the services the military provides to meet the unique needs of their situation. The purpose of this department is to provide some basic information, advocacy, and some helpful links to useful information for military families.
Each military branch provides services for families with special needs; however, benefits vary based on branch and base. Links on this page will lead you to more information regarding your specific situation.

Information About the Exceptional Family Member Program in the Military
The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program for all active duty personnel with family members with special needs. The goal of EFMP is to assist military families in managing the dual demands of a military service member and the special needs of a family member. An exceptional family member includes a family member enrolled in DEERS who possesses a diagnosed physical, intellectual or emotional need that requires specialized medical or educational services. Did you Know? Autism Services for Military Families
The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is available to all military personnel with family members with special needs. Respite care for EFMP families Support groups on base may be available! Common services such as OT, PT, Speech Therapy are covered under Tri-care ABA therapy is covered under Tri-Care Extended Care Health Option for individuals with a diagnosis of Autism, Mental Retardation, and or "Significant Physical disabilities" with "unaided performance".
